Project Overview

This historic restoration project breathed new life into a deteriorating 1890s Victorian home while preserving its architectural integrity and character-defining features. Working closely with the local historic preservation commission, we developed a restoration plan that honored the home's heritage while making it functional for contemporary living. Extensive exterior work included restoring original wood siding, rebuilding the wraparound porch with period-appropriate details, and replicating missing decorative elements using historic photographs. We carefully restored original windows, preserving wavy glass panes while improving energy efficiency with interior storm windows. The ornate interior millwork, including pocket doors, wainscoting, and medallions, was meticulously repaired and refinished. Behind the scenes, we completely updated building systems—rewiring for modern electrical loads while concealing new systems, replacing plumbing with PEX while maintaining original fixture locations, and installing a new high-efficiency HVAC system with careful ductwork routing to preserve ceiling heights and architectural details. The kitchen and bathrooms were sensitively updated with modern amenities in designs compatible with the home's Victorian character. Foundation repairs, new insulation, and roof replacement ensure the home's longevity for future generations. The result honors the craftsmanship of 1890s builders while providing comfort and efficiency for today's lifestyle.
